Out and about in Southern California
Shells in a plastic bag.
Every time we go to the beach, I collect as many shells as I can find. This one is pretty unusual.
Maybe someone bought it at a souvenir stand nearby and lost it.
Or maybe someone left it here for a shell collector like me.
This starfish was on the move.
It was in one of the touch tanks at the Santa Monica Pier Aquarium.

A Boeing 727 nose sticks out the front of Santa Monica’s Museum of Flying.
Upstairs, inside the museum, you can walk right into it.
The front windows look out over the street below.
You can sit in the pilot’s seat and pretend to fly.
We love the dioramas at the Natural History Museum. The halls are big and dark and quiet, and my little one likes to run from railing to railing in front of the lit-up windows. I like the physical space and seeing the animals up close. It’s so calm and so different from the zoo.

I saw all these overflowing flowers in pots lining this walkway a few weeks ago and wanted to try it — on a smaller scale at first — on our balcony at home.
